چکیده

Wings of various Drosophila melanogaster fly lines were analyzed: the common laboratory fly strain OregonR, inbred fly strains North-Carolina 375 and North-Carolina 399, and wild-caught flies from New Jersey, USA and Cartagena, Colombia. Flies were grown at 22◦C, except otherwise noted. For the temperature experiment, flies were kept at defined temperatures (16◦C, 18◦C, and 28◦C) for two generations before use. See table 1 for the details about fly numbers and temperature.

Fly wing vein patterns have spatial reproducibility of a single cell.

Developmental processes in multicellular organisms occur in fluctuating environments and are prone to noise, yet they produce complex patterns with astonishing reproducibility. We measure the left-right and inter-individual precision of bilaterally symmetric fly wings across the natural range of genetic and environmental conditions and find that wing vein patterns are specified with identical s...

Precision and reproducibility of macroscopic developmental patterns

Developmental processes in multicellular organisms occur far from equilibrium, yet produce complex patterns with astonishing reproducibility. We measure the precision and reproducibility of bilaterally symmetric fly wings across the natural range of genetic and environmental conditions and find that wing patterns are specified with identical spatial precision and are reproducible to within a si...

Fabrication of Organic Solar Cells with Branched Cauliflower-Like Nano Structures as a Back Electrode Replicated from a Natural Template of Cicada Wing Patterns

Nanostructures of noble metal materials have been used in organic solar cells for enhancement of performance and light trapping. In this study, we have introduced branched silver cauliflower-like nanopatterns as sub-wavelength structured metal grating in organic solar cells. Self-assembled fabrication process of branched nanopatterns was carried out on a bio-template of cicada wing nanonipple a...

Durable Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete with Supplimentary Cementitious Materials

Durability of concrete structure in marine environments is a big issue for many decades due to chloride attack. Chloride penetrates the concrete structure and accelerates the corrosion process of reinforcement which decreases the life of those structures. Also shrinkage cracks in concrete play main role for chloride penetration through concrete surface.  Many researchers tried to find easy and ...

Wing Folding in the Hymenoptera

Longitudinal folding (plaiting) of forewings at rest has arisen independently in Vespidae, Colletidae, Gasteruptiidae, Figitidae, Leucospidae, and Pompilidae. In the first five families the plaiting fold is similar in position, but in the last family its position is different. A type of wing folding unique to the eucoilid genus Kleidotoma—wrapping flexure—is described. In all cases, evolution o...
